Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes:
http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm/loadFeature/5588/page/1
Per Article:
"Here’s the thing that makes Wrath of Heroes different though… it doesn’t play like an RTS, it plays like an MMORPG.
The
best way to put it is that who is essentially the bite-sized nuggets of
awesome know as Scenarios, pared down into MOBA form. The combat’s
been upped a notch, made more frenetic and there are specific characters
tied to the familiar WAR classes, each with their own skill-sets and
specialties. On top of it all, each match is 6 v 6 v 6… a little
DAoC-like combat at long last."
Its sounds almost like DAoC w/o all the PVE. Its got my interest as a definate side game to my regular MMO.

nice to see someone trying something different/innovative in the MOBA space. The 3 front battle sounds really nice. Might be a nice alternative to all the DOTA clones :)
If you're interested make sure you go to the game site and sign up for beta.

who knows, maybe this will be your wakeup call Troezen :) Not that I'm advocating the game, but I'll certainly try it if I get a beta invite.

Possibly, but I definitely won't buy it- hopefully they go with the F2P model so I can try it and decide if it's worth dropping coin on.

I won't buy it either! because its F2P :) So yea, it'll be one worth trying for sure. Not that I have high hopes or anything, but worth taking a look.

I'm with coder - I'll never play a F2P game 'for real' - because it will end up costing you more money than a monthly sub - if you'll play it in any competitive way.Companies aren't stupid, f2p means more money for them, it's not less money for you.

I was actually just joking -- i.e. I won't buy it because its free so I don't need to buy it to play it :)
But you're right, these F2P titles aren't really free. Its basically a tradeoff between paying a fixed amount per month or paying as you go. There's always the question of which way has you paying more in the end.

I like F2P better. I have the choice to pay more or less depending on how I feel. In fact there's not a single F2P game that I've spent more on than subscription based ones, it's all in how you choose to handle it.
I've had an active WoW account for $15/mo since 2004 with only 3-4 months of lapse in there... that's $1200 on a game that I'll sometimes go 2-3-4 months without playing without canceling my subscription. Heh, fun times. I don't even like the game really, I just log in do arenas and log out- or if I'm super bored on a Sunday morning I'll do some battlegrounds or something.

yea thats true -- if you really add up the long term persistent sub fees you could very well pay far less by just using a cash shop here and there. and you're also not committed then, if you drop the game for a few months and pick it up again you haven't spent any money.

Been playing last few hours. If you can get in with a consistent warband its very fun. Pretty much guildwars meets warhammer but with zero pve. Main thing is get a warband going that will stick together and with a solid leader that can setup the team and direct everyone. If you get that down its pretty much an obvious win right now since you are going to mainly fight pugs.
Vice Versa if you just hang out in pugs the entire time it becomes annoying, repetitive and just shitty. This game is about building a solid team that works together.
You level up to gain tactic slots and in the future you will gain gold in fights to buy gear. I can see it becoming fairly involved due to the fact that you can switch your character after you die. IE your team leader can have you change your class mid fight based on the other teams makeup, or just keep the team the same. Of course your fighting against two different teams at the same time so you would want to build your team based on the dominant opposition etc. etc.
Anyways, I'm having a blast w/ the game and its a definite for me until some big mmo comes to drain my social life.

sounds like fun -- the PUG thing is true in every PvP game.
